| What
You Can Do
Here
are some suggestions for strategies to position the arts
for the new legislative session:
-
-
Establish
an effective Advocacy Committee within your organization
or institution who are willing to contact legislators
and expand the work of our Arts Advocacy Network
-
Recognize
and thank legislators for their past support
in funding the arts and arts education
-
Build
relationships with your legislative delegation
by involving them in your programs, events, exhibitions,
performances and in the classroom
-
Offer
to provide artwork
for their legislative offices on a rotating basis
-
Meet
with your legislators while they are in their
home district
-
Host
a breakfast meeting, reception, or forum
in order to express you concern for state funding support
of the arts and arts education
-
Invite
your legislators to a board meeting so they
can understand the important role your organization
plays in the community and the value of state dollars
in making a difference
-
Ask
a legislator to write a column for your newsletter
or website in support of the arts
-
Offer
to be a reliable source of information to your legislators
about the arts and arts education
-
Educate
your legislators about the value of
your organization's programs, services within the community
and classroom studies related to the arts and student
success
-
Plan
to participate in SC
Arts Advocacy Day, by coming to the State
House and attending the Legislative Appreciation Luncheon
or by contacting your legislator from your home district
on that day
-
Advocacy
is a daily activity and should be part of your mission.
